Happenings on the Farm

Plans, plans, plans, my notebook is running over with plans.  We are researching and trying to learn all we can about gardening!  Although we have gardened practically all our lives, there is still so much more to learn.

Organic gardening is the way we want to go!  I cannot even stand to think about putting pesticides on my garden.  If makes me ill just to think about it!!!  We are in the process of trying to decide whether or not to begin the steps to become certified organic by the USDA.  It takes a lot of work- not to mention paperwork- to complete the certification and I am not sure I want to have to go to all that trouble.

So, today, we took a three fellows who work for the USDA to look at our "farm".  Well, it was raining so hard!  You all would not believe how hard.  I drove the 4-wheeler up the little road, water was running all over the place and I just knew those USDA boys were praying so hard!!  We took them to the place we want to set up the High Tunnel and the place we want to plant.  We showed them where we hoped to add new gardens.

It was a day for information.  We learned why the pond probably was not working.  We learned about rules and all the programs we might qualify for.  We completed forms and hopefully we will shortly become the owners of a High Tunnel!!!

Stay tuned to learn more. We will try to keep you all updated as we journey down this road!
